C202 | The Building Blocks of Transformation: Bridging the Gap from the 3270 Terminal
Sunday October 27, 2024 14:00 - 18:00 CET
We hear a lot about the open mainframe, but what does it really mean?  Depending on your role and organization boundary, the definition of open mainframe can vary.  At Broadcom, our point of view on the open mainframe is essentially to enable those capabilities our customers need to effectively manage this critical component of their hybrid IT architecture, as services.  This is supported through our Database Management Data Service (DBM-DS) architecture built to be Zowe compliant, leveraging the many benefits provided by the Zowe API mediation layer (API-ML).  Come join our workshop to learn best practices for standing up a DBM-DS instance and API-ML which will then open the doors to many exciting use cases enabled through a web-based interactive user interface.

F2 | From the Statement Cache with Love
Monday October 28, 2024 11:30 - 12:30 CET
In today's modern applications, workload is increasingly shifting from traditional CICS or IMS transactions to Java workload. As a result, analyzing dynamic queries has become more important than ever before.
In this presentation, I will demonstrate how to systematically analyze dynamic queries using the Global Dynamic Statement Cache, and how to identify queries that require immediate attention. We will develop a tool that allows SQL developers to analyze dynamic queries in their shop from day one after the conference. This tool is designed to be easily accessible and user-friendly, without requiring access to the mainframe. With it, developers can answer typical questions such as "Which queries performed better or worse within the last 30 days?", "Which of my queries were running at a given time and how did they perform?", and "Which of my queries are getting slower over time?" in a self-service mode. Additionally, we will explore how to translate query tuning results to cash savings, demonstrating the financial benefits of query optimization. By the end of this presentation, you will have a clear understanding of how to uncover and monetize hidden insights by analyzing the Global Dynamic Statement Cache.

C5 | Adaptive Workload Management: Latest Best Practices for Managing your Database
Monday October 28, 2024 16:30 - 17:30 CET
Db2’s Adaptive Workload Management technology vastly simplifies the task of dividing your database resources across workloads to ensure they meet their performance objectives. Unlike traditional workload managers it manages the admission of jobs based on their actual resource needs and intelligently schedules them based on the resource targets you assign, ensuring stable and reliable performance even in the face of the most highly concurrent workloads. Join David Kalmuk, the architect of the Adaptive Workload Manager, for an update on new enhancements in the latest release and best practices that will allow you to get the most out of this technology.

Wednesday October 30, 2024 16:30 - 17:30 CET
Db2 Connect is supposed to be a well-known topic but it is often not very well understood. This session shows the latest updates to Db2 Connect V11.5 and presents some of the best practices from conversations and interactions with customers. We cover topics such as installation, deployment, license activation, and configuration, including setting up TLS. In addition, we show why direct connectivity to Db2 mainframe servers is the preferred solution over Db2 Connect Servers, a.k.a. as Gateways.

E14 | Introduction to dashboards for Db2 for z/OS DBAs
Wednesday October 30, 2024 17:40 - 18:40 CET
The ability to explore, analyze, and visualize data is becoming a hot topic. As DevOps is adapted by the mainframe community the developers show an increasing interest in the Ops side, i.e., being able to monitor and view the health of an application. While showing data in 3270 is not bad there are many advantages of using modern tooling to visualize data.
In the first half of the presentation, we will give a high level introduction to modern open source visualization tools like Kibana and Grafana.
In the second half of the presentation we will explore several use cases of interest to Db2 for z/OS DBAs and application owners and developers, such as viewing Db2 real time statistics, Db2 utility history and Db2 performance metrics. Ultimately this allows you to build dashboards tailored to individual applications.

Thursday October 31, 2024 09:00 - 10:00 CET
The presentation will be divided into 3 parts:
1. DR recommendation for Mainframe environment focusing on DB2 z/OS
DR cosiderations: What technology? What data? What purpose?
- popular DR myths word thinking about
- is there any recommendation other than 'It depends'?
2. DR configuration in mixed environmentPresentation will cover real production configuration for core banking application from Disaster Recovery point of view. Applications runs on Mainframe and Linux/Windows environment, both parts of app are important and data consistency between them is crucial.
Application consumes :
a.      few thousand of MSU on Mainframe
b.     about 100 TB of data on Mainframe
c.      more than 50 physical intel servers
d.     about 150 TB of data on distributed
Presentation describes the approach for db2 z/os and files data consistency between two platform. The approach for building and testing disaster recovery procedures will be presented.
3. Golden Copy verification in mixed environmentsPresentation will cover the idea of creating consistent backup before each batch processing, short description of configuration will explain the idea of approach for backup.
All aspects of configuration and testing (consistency) Golden copy backup will be described.

B203 | The next generation of services for Db2 administration and development workshop
Thursday October 31, 2024 14:30 - 18:30 CET
Bring your own device to this workshop, where you will have a chance to perform a hands-on lab to experience the latest deliverables towards Db2 user transformation.

Db2 administrator personas can execute some of their daily tasks in a more intuitive way via Db2 Administration Foundation and its integration with Db2 Tuning Services, Query Workload Tuner and IDAA Administration services.  Last but not least, administrators can also benefit from Db2 DevOps experience (DBaaS) to “shift-left” database operations to application developers under their rules and administrative directives.
Db2 application developer personas can develop / test and deploy application changes that also require database change in a speed that business demand. Using Db2 Developer Extension in IDE will simplify coding of SQL including native stored procedure code. Using Db2 DevOps Experience services (DBaaS), developers can, on demand, self-service database operations under the rules previously established by the Db2 administrators.
