B2 | Introducing the Db2 AI Query Optimizer
Monday October 28, 2024 11:30 - 12:30 CET
Wouldn't it be great if Db2 could automatically determine ideal access plans based on hidden correlations discovered in your table data? That's the idea behind Db2's AI Query Optimizer, a key new feature in Db2 v12 for LUW. This talk will go through the basics of how the Db2 AI Query Optimizer automatically trains machine learning models that discover hidden data correlations. These machine learning models are later used at SQL query compilation time to generate better runtime access plans, making your queries run faster. All of this is done automatically, under the covers.

F3 | Messing with JSON data – how to consume and publish JSON data using Db2
Monday October 28, 2024 14:00 - 15:00 CET
JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is an open standard data interchange format that has been around since the early 2000s but is gaining more traction all the time.
Data is available from a variety of sources and customers want to be able to consume and publish it without having to involve extra resources; software or staff.
As such, it behoves us in the database community to ensure that we can store, process  and display the data.
This presentation will demonstrate how to accomplish that requirement.

C6 | The Transition of Db2 Automated HA from TSA to Pacemaker on Linux - The Final Act
Tuesday October 29, 2024 10:20 - 11:20 CET
Alas! We are in the Final Act of the transition from TSA to Pacemaker on Linux! This finale is a culmination of 4+ years of intense development kicked off with a technical preview of 2-node HADR in v11.5.4.0 as the Prologue, followed by Act 1 with the official GA five months later in v11.5.5.0. Act 2 boosted up & running story with integrated bundling of the Pacemaker stack in v11.5.6.0. Act 3 covered v11.5.7.0 and v11.5.8.0 where the automation on cloud was introduced as well as the debut of the second HA configuration - Mutual Failover with shared disk. This session serves as a refresher of HADR and Mutual Failover and an introduction to DPF and pureScale with Pacemaker. It covers the "WHY" it is time to switch to Pacemaker, the "WHAT" you should know before you switch, the "HOW" you can switch, the "WHAT IF" you do not switch, and "WHAT ELSE" is in the pipeline from Db2 High Availability Development.

D7 | The Engineering Challenges Behind the Db2 AI Query Optimizer
Tuesday October 29, 2024 11:30 - 12:30 CET
The Db2 AI Query Optimizer builds, trains, and uses Deep Learning Neural Networks to provide advanced query optimization capabilities. Introducing deep learning safely onto production database management systems is a monumental task. Learn about the tremendous engineering challenges we confronted as we transitioned the Db2 ML Optimizer Tech Preview into a production-ready feature in v12. Some of the many challenges faced were how to deliver good machine learning model accuracy across a wide variety of use cases, how to minimize impact to existing workloads running on the database management system, and how to minimize machine learning model storage requirements. Knowing how the Db2 AI Query Optimizer was designed and how these engineering challenges were tackled will give you the confidence needed to try out this new feature on your own database systems.

B11 | Maintaining Database Indexes in a 24×7 World
Wednesday October 30, 2024 11:30 - 12:30 CET
In a 24×7 world, the expectation is that databases are always available, especially those that target OLTP workloads. Within the Db2 family, pureScale is the shared-disk clustering solution that aims to achieve zero downtime for this 24x7 world through an architecture that provides the highest availability for the most demanding OLTP workloads. In this talk we will discuss the improvements we made to pureScale's Index Reorg Rebuild, one of the fundamental day-2 maintenance operations, to allow an index to be completely rebuilt without taking an outage. The architect of the feature will cover the nuts and bolts of the new Db2 pureScale Online Index Reorg Rebuild feature's design, including its processing stages, configuration and monitoring options, and best practices to use it and achieve the highest availability.

B15 | Getting the Best from your applications on Db2 pureScale in v12.1
Thursday October 31, 2024 09:00 - 10:00 CET
DB2 pureScale v12.1 is the ideal platform for demanding OLTP applications, with Outstanding Availability, Excellent Performance and Scalability.
The most-common SQL for DB2 OLTP applications run unmodifed on Db2 pureScale when migrating from existing Db2 non-clustered configurations. Most changes for optimizations deal with database design, such as indexes and data partitioning, to maximize performance and scalability. This presentation focuses on not just functioning on Db2 pureScale but finding opportunities to run optimally and reap the benefits of scale-up and scale-out performance:

spotting challenges early in planning / porting applications to Db2 pureScale
using database monitoring insights to find and address bottlenecks
