Db2 OLTP and warehouse databases becomes larger and larger, and multi terra byte databases are common nowadays.
Therefore, is a good database design is essentially important – because it can influence the future of companies and government organizations, positively or negatively.
But what is a good database design and how do you develop it?
Designing a relational database is the process of creating a logical representation of either a complete database or objects like schemas, tables and so on.
The visual representation illustrates the database objects/entities, their attributes, data types etc. and describes the relationships between these entities, and the ways the data can be grouped and organized.
Database models address business needs and business rules. The design process can be very challenging because many aspects need to be considered. In addition, various stakeholders need to be involved.
In this session, I will talk about different design techniques and the most important aspects for a good database design.
Because this is essential for data quality, integrity, security, performance and scalability.
